BLOON (bloon.io) is a magical file synchronization service with functionality similar to Dropbox. Simply install the BLOON desktop application on the computers you want to sync, and then you can specify folders to fully synchronize. BLOON offers “Conditional syncing”, too. You can set rules to partially sync folders, such as only syncing files under 10 MB or specifying individual files to sync, which saves hard drive space on some computers.

stash, sync & share: without storing anything in the cloud

BLOON differs from Dropbox by using P2P to transfer and sync files, rather than “storing them in the cloud”. It’s similar to Resilio Sync (formerly Bittorrent Sync), however, BLOON is more powerful than Resilio Sync due to differences in features and positioning.

BLOON is a file management tool with an interface similar to Windows Explorer or Mac Finder. It’s more powerful because it allows you to write notes and tags for files and folders, which can be accessed cross-platform through BLOON’s services (Mac Finder can also write notes and tags for files, but cannot synchronize access across platforms). Think of it as a “cross-platform file manager”.

BLOON goes beyond file management, offering multi-user features. It’s described as a “joint file manager” with instant chat capabilities. Each “bloon” has a “message board” like a Slack channel. Members can have access rights, such as “Viewer-Commenter” permissions, allowing them to download, read, and comment on files, but not delete or modify them.
